The Eco Womb Tour
Eco Womb - Our Story…
Traveling in an RV fueled by waste vegetable oil, we have journeyed from the ocean to the mountains and back again as we learned and lived on the road with our family of seven. For 13 years, the Eco Womb Tour Bus spread the message of simple and sustainable living, alternative fuels, renewable energy, natural parenting, living from the heart, healthy living, organic foods, and getting out into nature as a family. We engaged, educated, connected, and co-created conscious change across the country as we traveled and hiked together from coast to coast, sharing the love and "Connecting Families, Creating Change"
Eco Womb was initially our online business we started when pregnant with our daughter back in 2007. We sold eco-safe things we couldn’t find locally at that time - wooden toys, baby slings, cloth diapers, etc. We were actively taking steps to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and running a business offering these items to our community felt like a great beginning. Then, when the original Live Lightly Tour bus came up for sale, a RV powered on waste vegetable oil, we jumped at the chance to move into a tiny home on wheels and take our sustainable living one step further. We were invited to an Earth Day event right after getting our first RV and we loved connecting with people and educating them on the steps to take to live simply and closer to nature as a family so much that we turned Eco Womb into a non-profit, wrapped our bus as the Eco Womb, and went on a cross country tour. It was a mere thought that turned into an action, a dream that became our reality, a heart-filled nudge that said “go for it” even though it seemed unconventional and a little crazy…and for over a decade we worked festivals and events connecting with families through education, games, music and fun.
The Eco Womb Tour was launched in November 2010 to educate and connect with families at events, demos, fairs, and festivals all over the country. We set up the RV with fun interactive games and resources on simple living, alternative fuels, solar energy, zero waste, going organic, eco-safe products for the home, GMO awareness, natural parenting, living from the heart, and getting outside into nature together as a family. We have reached over a hundred thousand people with our message of socially and eco-conscious change. We have hosted workshops and community events, ran waste vegetable oil and bottle brick demonstrations and shared how to hike, camp, and enjoy the great outdoors with your kids, from newborn to teen. We have participated in over 100 events in over a decade, with at least one event per month from 2010-2019! “Connecting Families, Creating Change” was our motto, for those we met and most importantly, for how we lived.
Our kids grew up on the road, and so did we. The people we met became family. Life learning alongside our kids, or road schooling, became a way of life. Hiking through National Parks became our weekly adventures. Camping along the ocean or deep in forests or up in the mountains became our ever changing backyard. We started with the older three kiddos, they were 3, 7, and 10 respectively. We then added two more babies (born on the road in the RV!), upgraded to a 38 ft RV, and logged countless miles and visited 49 states and 3 provinces in Canada. We were part of the OG crew of families that started traveling when not many people lived on the road. In the beginning not everyone understood our why and I’m sure our families thought we were crazy. But, we’ve never been ones to live conventionally, and the nomad life suited us. It gave us more time together as a family, it gave us the ability to see the world by actively being in all different parts of it, and it gave us the gift of meeting so many people from so many places that have now become our world village. We are so glad this lifestyle has definitely become more and more popular as jobs have become remote and there are so many creative ways to make a living while traveling nowadays. And, for us, we aren’t done exploring, but we have landed where our hearts have always called us back to… the ocean.
When our two older boys moved out and onto their own over the last couple years, we stayed near the mountains of Colorado to be close to them. Events and festivals took a pause, like everything else in 2020, and it gave us time to reflect and shift our energy and work. We bought a boat to get us on the beautiful lakes there. We renovated a camper van - the Eco Roam - to go on shorter trips without the RV, and to rent to get other families out and into nature. And, we took trips with the Eco Womb still, but mostly stayed in once place for a couple years. The mountains nurtured us in a time when the world was a bit crazy, when lots of things changed, when the environmental community changed. And then, as our family evolved, we felt called to shift our work and have land again. A place to work on the Eco Womb, to have a garden again, to have our boat in our own yard, room for our camper van, space for the growing family as they all grow up and come and go. And, the ocean called us back as she has always done in our travels. Sun, sand, surf and sea is where we need to be.
After 13 years of full-time RV life raising a family full-time in 350 square feet, from 2011-2024, the Eco Womb fam has bought a house by the ocean in sunny Florida. And, while the Eco Womb is parked for now, she is not forgotten, because honestly, the Eco Womb was never just our rig, it is our life’s work sharing the love, connecting with families, nurturing a relationship to nature, creating change, and inspiring a heart-filled lifestyle of adventure and connection. Eco Womb is our family, is our message, and is our legacy. What started as a simple idea to create our home as safe as a Mama’s womb, hence Eco Womb, it has evolved into our story of inspiration, education, adventure, and most importantly connection. Because the journey was never about the destination, but always about following our hearts.
So, take a look around our website— where we’ve been, what we’ve done, events we worked, and the evolution of our tiny home on wheels and our family. We will continue to update and blog as we have more things to share, and as a record of all that we have done. This is our space to document the journey we’ve taken and the impact made. But, you never know, you may see the Eco Womb out on the road again. And, if so, be sure to connect up! Because our favorite shares are not online, but around a campfire under the stars, near some kind of body of water (ocean, river, lake, mud puddle, haha), playing music and connecting through stories and heart-filled conversation. It’s where you will always find us, living fully in the now. Thank you for being here and being a part of our journey after all these years. Our journey to the heart.
Much peace and love,
the Eco Womb family
